Hybrid Modeling Session: Zoom and In Person
The next YSA Portrait Group meeting will be held at the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst, Friday, February 25 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This will be our first in-person meeting of the year. It will be a Hybrid session for those who either cannot or do not wish to attend in person.
The Omicron Variant of Covid-19 is highly contagious. You must be vaccinated to attend this event. Even though the State of California has removed the requirement that all vaccinated people need to be masked indoors, Madera County has a High Transmission Rate of the viruses. Thus, artists in-person need to be masked. The only person that will not be masked is the model.
The Sierra Senior Center offers a large room and they have plenty of tables for artists to set-up table top easels. Artists need to bring their own easels, as needed. Artists painting with watercolors, acrylics, water-based oil paints, etc. will need to provide their own drop cloths to protect the tables and floor from spilled paint. This is not the old Gertrude, where spills never mattered. While there are bathrooms and a kitchen at the facility, artists can NOT use any of those for clean-up of their art materials.
Because it is a closed room and we have artists that are sensitive to petroleum fumes, no turpentines or other petroleum based products including odorous solvents such as Gamsol will not be permitted. For oil painters, alternative solvents such as Turpenoid Natural can be used.
We will continue using a hybrid system – both an in-person live model, and continuing the Zoom sessions on your computer, tablet or iPad from your own home. My husband Kerby Smith is my co-coordinator for Portrait Group, as he runs the Zoom sessions. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom but would like to try, contact Kerby at ysavpcom@gmail.com.
The sessions will be the same format: 20 minutes on for the model, a ten-minute break, and then our model will resume the pose.
