Kathy Marks

Biographical Info I am inspired by finding new narratives through repurposing and collage, gathering elements to tell the story. Words and wire. Bells and beads. Rusty metal anything, fabric and paper, sources are endless. Intuitively, I connect these together, sometimes with gentle humor, always with a calmness of spirit and presence. My work with art and words has been evolving for several years. This includes my six word series, TeaBagQuotes, and the word magnet series. I also create sculptural whimsical figures which I call “zkatrina couture”…they are ‘where sculpture becomes dance’: humorous, stylish and entertaining with all of the details revealed. My past work includes a series of notecards and T-shirts called “catnaps…”, which were created from my cat drawings, and “peas & carrots…”, also a series of textile art created from drawings on fabric, using machine-sewn thread layers to create depth and character. In addition, I was a freelance designer for Bath & Body Works, where I designed prototypes for product packaging. These pieces invite the viewer to slow down and enjoy the details and emotion…quiet energies hidden in overlapping thoughts.
