Rivka Schaffner

Artist Bio Hello my name is Rivka Ann Schaffner ~
I am a Contemporary Graffiti Artist of the Post Pop, Surrealistic, Abstract Movement.

I began selling my art work at street art shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Santa Barbara in 1975. My art appears in private collections around the world, and has been displayed in the galleries of Los Angeles, Honolulu, Santa Fe, in the mountains of Yosemite and currently in Fresno.

My graffiti work has appeared on walls of Japan, Russia, Mexico and box cars that travel along the train tracks of the west coast.
I have has illustrated 52 children's books and worked on 8 syndicated television cartoon shows.

My paintings are inspired from nature, dreams, thoughts streaming through my mind, random life experiences, big blank walls, white canvases, and long walks on a beautiful warm beach.

I approach each blank canvas with the concept that that all life is creative...

Every action is an act of creating...

every thought is a creative moment...

making artwork is the physicality of the creative moment, which is fleeting and intangible...

by capturing that essence using earthly tools and media, we as artists leave a footprint, tracking our reflections of the abstract...innate in every person.

Creating art to me is like breathing...

As my painting has matured, I have learned to take art into my own hands and be my own director. I have become free to create without concern for what the viewer perceives, which takes a great amount of pressure off me as a creator, making my work more authentic.”

“It is the one thing I can do without having to follow directions or rules.

I am a rebel that is respected.

Making art makes me limitless, weightless, and timeless...

My work looks even better BIG...I like when you have to actually ...w...a...l...k... past a painting as it amplifies the experience for the viewer.

I use words in my work which become a secret door engaging the viewer to travel through my paintings.

I love that my art makes people question the fine line is between art and vandalism...being part of the underground graffiti movement is exciting for me, changing the old paradigms of what is considered art by the establishment is challenging and requires a persistent dedication to following your heart and ignoring the criticism that follows this new style of looking at the world with paint.

Art never speaks, but it is the language all humanity can understand.

My art is a stream of conscience decisions. Every stroke and color is deliberate.

When I create I am with God…and the painting is a souvenir of my journey.”

If you love what you create, it will exude from the piece and speak to someone.

Art is the next step in human conscience evolution .
