Glen Riggs

Artist Bio Hello, my name is Glen Riggs. I was born in Mariposa, at John C. Freemont hospital in 1972. I was raised in Ahwahnee California where I still reside today with my lovely wife Jennifer. We have two daughters, Torree and Hunter. I grew up in these beautiful mountains and raised my children here. I have always been interested in art, and have shared my love of art with my family.
As a young child I mostly sketched and eventually I discovered pyrography (wood burning) Although I have never taken
an art class, I worked to learn, and continue to learn technique and style. As time went on I developed more as a young artıst.

Like most kids, I didn't have a clue as to what I was going to do when I graduated High school. Until one day a close friend asked me if I wanted to come to a presentation being put on by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, now known as CALFIRE. We couldn't wait to join up and fight fire!
Although we were not 18 years old and would have to wait to apply for a job; but our eyes were open to new possibilities.
I took several adult education classes on first aid and fire ground operations etc. Eventually I graduated from Yosemite High School in 1991 and became a volunteer firefighter for Madera County. In 1994 my hard work paid off and I was hired by CALFIRE. I continued to take Fire Science courses over the years and advanced my career to the rank of Fire Captain.
Now after 30 fire seasons I was able to retire in 2024 and refocus my life to my love of art. Currently I have been learning to paint with acrylics. Most of my art work has been firefighter, military and western themed. I enjoy painting and drawing and wood burning, pretty much whatever sparks my interest. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
Thank you for your interest,
Glen
