Steve Carney

Artist Bio I started my journey in woodcarving at 17 years old. I went to a woodcarving show and came home and made my first tools by grinding down files. As a self-taught artist, I have spent a lifetime learning and teaching myself techniques from reading books and talking to more experienced woodcarvers. I have won several first place awards, and best in shows. My journey has been more about self improvement and enjoyment. I believe everyone has a gift in the arts, its just a matter of finding the art form that a person enjoys. The woods I use have had a previous life and have been exposed to various events throughout their lifespan. My role is to perserve the hidden sculputre and release it from the aged material that finds me.
