Barbara Liss/BLissful Art
Artist Bio
As a young girl and teenager, I took private art lessons and was first introduced to oil painting. It was love at first sight. Life intervened and I spent 50 years in the legal industry but always sketched and occasionally painted, experimenting with watercolor, charcoal, conte crayon, pastels, casein and other media. When my husband and I retired, he fulfilled my wish to live near Yosemite, so we moved to the mountains and had ten wonderful years in which I visited Yosemite many, many times. I hiked, I breathed and I painted. Life has taken me a bit further from the Sierra Nevada foothills, but I remain close enough to visit frequently and maintain my contact with Yosemite Sierra Artists and the art community that has graciously embraced me.
I displayed for five years at the Mariposa Sierra Artists Gallery; I currently show at the Yosemite Sierra Artists Gallery in Oakhurst and at 480 Lighthouse Gallery in Pacific Grove. I was accepted at juried exhibitions at Scarab Gallery in Fresno, Madera County Arts Council’s annual “Celebrate Agriculture” show (three times), YSA’s Visions of Self and many Yosemite Sierra Artists juried annual shows. I participated in the juried Sierra Art Trails open studio tour for five years. I also have shown my work in conjunction with the Art Inspiration Group, a select guild of nine female foothills artists, of which I am proud and honored to be one. Our group has had three very successful exhibitions at Yosemite Gateway Arts Center and the Gallery at Oakhurst Spirits. I am past president of YSA and currently serve as gallery manager and community gallery liaison.
I frequently attend plein air group and portrait sessions and generally paint to save my sanity and serenity. My Facebook page is accessible at:
